Previously I wrote about a client who had to fire an employee that was holding her business back. She was working 60-70 hours a week keeping the business afloat while her key employee was skating along and creating chaos in the team. It was a perfect example of a business owner making a sacrifice to keep her business running even as obvious solutions were being ignored. When I first started working with her, she told me that her dream was to have a business run without her so she could focus on her art. I just got an e-mail from her today telling me how much she is enjoying her new life in Switzerland spending her time traveling and doing her paintings. She commented in the e-mail “I want to thank you for all of your coaching. I am truly running the business from Switzerland!! Amazing, I would never have thought it possible. Business is fairly good considering the economy, but at least we are viable. I think of you so often and hear your voice in my ear. So I guess you are a success.”
In Michael Gerber’s book The E-Myth Revisited, he talks about the myth of the business owner as the ultimate sacrificial lamb. We have been lead to believe that in order to be successful in business we have to spend years upon years of hard work, slaving away until one magical day we can finally leave the business and enjoy a nice, quiet retirement…………if we live that long. The truth is that business is designed to give you the life YOU want. What sort of dreams do you have? Overseas mission trips? That lake home you have always dreamed about? Maybe it’s even funding your children’s college education. The fact is that you CAN get your business running without you, but you have to follow specific steps in order to do that. Most business owners don’t know where to start. That is where your coach comes in. They are there to help you lay out the map, put an action plan together, and then stick with you until you have successfully completed your journey.
I hope you enjoy the original art work; the result of one business owner living her dream.

Your Telephone System-What it Says About Your Company
I was reviewing my American Express statement yesterday when I saw some charges from a particular company that was never authorized. Conveniently, their 800 number was on the statement, so instead of immediately calling American Express to dispute the charges, I called their number to resolve this issue. However, I was forced to go through a labyrinth of options, and in the end, I was told that their customer services reps were too busy, and that if I left a message they would call by the end of the day. I left a message. They never called back. Needless to say, now they have American Express deal with, and they don’t play as nice as I do.
Overcoming the Humble Gene
I finished reading Oversubscribed by Daniel Priestly. In the book he talks about being a “Key Person of Influence” and the concept that, in many cases, a personal brand is much more powerful than a generic brand. This means that if you are a business owner and you want to grow your business you will need to promote yourself and “Be” the brand of your business.
The Gold Mine You Are Missing in Your Dental Practice
Having worked with Dental Practice for 15 of the past 20 years in my coaching practice, I notice that many of them fail to exploit an obvious source of extra revenue that sits right under their proverbial noses.
